Goals :
â– Learn basic pathologic diagnostic approach through participation in the surgical
and autopsy
neuropathology service.
â– To successfully correlate pathologic diagnosis with clinical findings to help optimize
therapeutic decision.

Activities :
â– Participate in routine microscopic sign out with faculty including biopsies and gross surgical neuropathology specimens.
â– Understand the importance of frozen section diagnosis during intraoperative consultations.
â– Participate in the brain cutting, didactic and case conferences, and neuro-oncology tumor board.
â– Assists house staff to obtain case related clinical data.
â– Review neuroanatomy and basic neuropathology, on discussions across the microscope, power-point lectures and recommended literature.
Lecture Hours: 2 hours weekly
Seminar Hours: 5-10 hours weekly
Lab Hours: 5-10 Hours weekly
Assessment :
â– Students will be evaluated based on attendance and participation in assigned activities as well as basic fund of knowledge with focus on pathologic diagnosis and clinical correlations.
â– Toward the end of the rotation, students are encouraged to give a 20-minute talk before the Anatomic pathology faculty and pathology residents on a topic of their interest and strength based on interesting case(s) encountered during this rotation.
